Los Amigos de las Americas is a ministry of Saint Mary Cathedral. This ministry hosts monthly breakfasts year round to fund and provide for the elaborate festivites on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of Mexico and the Americas. This small but dedicated ministry provides food and funds for several of the Cathedral's receptions including, but not limited to the Annual Confirmation Reception. Thank you for your support of Los Amigos!
Matachines (Spanish matachin, or religious dancer) are bands of Mexican dancers who dance at several Roman Catholic celebrations. People who join the Matachines dance for a religious purpose, dancing to venerate either Mother Mary (Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Lourdes, Immaculate Conception, etc.), a saint (usually the saint that pertains to the church they belong to), or simply to worship Jesus Christ or God. The dances performed by the Matachines have significant symbolism; in that, the dances are prayers that become symbolic in the veneration and honor of such saints as Mary, that draw us closer to God.
