Saint Mary Cathedral is offering a slew of events during the Lenten season this year, offering parishioners the chance for a deeper conversion during one of the most holiest of seasons.
Musica Ecclesiae announces Lenten concerts
The Cathedral's annual music series will conclude its 2008 - 2009 season with presentations by two of Austin's premier musical ensembles.
: The men of the Texas Early Music Project, under the direction of Daniel Johnson, will perform music from Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, here in our own Cathedral sanctuary. Music of great spirit, beauty and holiness from the founding of Notre Dame in the 13th century bridges time and distance to our own recently rededicated Gothic style Cathedral here in the heart of Texas. Cathedral musicians Brett Barnes, Danny Johnson and Jeffrey Jones-Ragona are among the featured performers for this evening of rarely heard, beautiful Medieval music. For tickets and other information, please visit www.early-music.org
or call (512) 371-0099.
: The Baroque orchestra La Follia in their first Cathedral appearance will present an evening of Lenten songs and arias, interpreted by our own Stephanie Prewitt, violinist Laurie Stevens and special guest performers. Music of JS Bach, Handel and others will be heard in this Cathedral debut. Music that fills the spirit and refreshes the soul with hope will be heard against the magnificent backdrop of the Cathedral sanctuary as we bring to a close our magnificent 2008 - 2009 season. For tickets and more information, call (512) 879-6404.
