• Fully Initiated Catholic (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation)
• Practicing Catholic who participates in the sacramental life of the Church with frequency
• If married, must be in a valid Catholic marriage
• If unmarried, living within the moral guidelines of the Church
• Must have a passion for imparting Catholic teaching to youth
• Must attend a protecting God’s children workshop and pass a background check (Ethics and Integrity in Ministry training)
Time Requirements:
• One hour of class instruction every Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon
• Thirty minutes to an hour of prepping every other week (*co-teachers take turns being the lead teacher each week)
• Four catechist meetings a year (meetings last from one to two hours each)
Teaching Expectations:
• Pray for your students on a regular basis
• Prepare and e-mail lessons plans to the director of Christian Faith Formation a week in advance
• Stop by the Christian Faith Formation office to pick up an attendance roster and important notices before each class
• Set up the classroom (if appropriate)
• Record attendance for every class
• Open each class session with a prayer
• Teach Catholicism in light of the Church’s magisterial teachings
• Hand out flyers and notices to families
• End each class session with a prayer
• Make sure the classroom is left the way it was prior to each class
• Return attendance roster to Christian Faith Formation office after each class
