At this prayer service, Austin-area Christians come together to join in Christ's prayer that all those who believe in Him may be one, so that the world may believe that the Father sent Him, and that the Father loves them as He loves Christ (John 17:20-23). This simple, ecumenical prayer service consists of contemplative singing with music from Taizé, Scripture readings, silent prayer and a short closing prayer.
The music we use originated in Taizé, an ecumenical community established in 1940. The community serves as a sign of reconciliation among divided Christians, in the hope that Christians may go forth as a leaven of reconciliation between people, of trust among nations and of peace on earth. For more information about Taizé in general, or to learn more about the music, see www.taize.fr.
