The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life, the Lord’s own sacrifice. In the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church namely, Christ himself. It is communion in the divine life. It is the culmination both of God’s action sanctifying the world in Christ and of the worship offered to Christ. It is the sum and summary of our faith. Eucharist completes the Christian Initiation.
Catholics are encouraged to receive the Holy Eucharist regularly.
Holy Communion is the next Sacrament of Initiation after Baptism. It is where we participate in the Paschal Banquet of Christ and receive Jesus Christ who is fully present in the Eucharist. This sacrament comes directly from Christ who declares, "unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life within you" (John 6:53).
We are called to take time to prepare to receive Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament. For those who have been baptized as infants they will begin their First Holy Communion preparation at 6 or 7. Those who have not been baptized as infants will receive their First Holy Communion in conjunction with the other Sacraments of Initiation. Please see the links below, split by age, to begin this preparation.
