The Austin Schoenstatt Community will host a Walk with Christ, a Good Friday pilgrimage, through the streets of Austin on April 14 beginning with a send-off blessing from Bishop Joe Vásquez at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral in Austin. The Austin Byzantine Catholic community will celebrate a Lenten service consisting of solemn Vespers and Holy Communion, followed by the Anointing of the Sick, on Holy Monday, April 10, at the chapel of St. Edward's University, 3001 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704, beginning at 6:30 PM. Together in God’s Love is a four-part marriage preparation series, presenting an overview of the Church’s teachings on the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. The four weekly classes will focus on Catholic marriage as a visible sign of the Holy Trinity and the relationship of Christ to the Church. Each session will include a talk on faith, communication, sexuality, and stewardship within the context of Catholic matrimony. Couples are given the opportunity to engage in conversation, self-reflection, and journaling on these topics. Location: Bishops Hall, Saint Mary Cathedral, 203 East 10th Street, Austin, TX. Texas Catholic Pro-Life Day is Jan. 28. The day will begin with a prayer vigil to end abortion at Planned Parenthood (201 E. Ben White Blvd. in Austin). Then the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed at 9:15 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Austin followed by Mass at 10 a.m. with Bishop Joe Vásquez. Everyone will proceed to the March for Life at 18th and N. The Austin Diocese is now accepting applications for the Ascend class of 2017. Approximately 30 young adults will be selected to participate in a series of retreats and evening courses between February and April. The Ascend class of 2017 will be empowered to make a lasting contribution by practicing applied leadership skills so that they may exercise their faith in positions of leadership in the church as well as in their homes, communities and careers. June 27, 2016 AUSTIN — The US Supreme Court has decided, in a 5-3 decision, to strike down Texas HB2, a law that protects women’s safety while seeking an abortion. The Texas Bishops are highly concerned that this ruling puts women at grave risk. The Texas State Legislature overwhelmingly approved HB2. Its main purpose is to secure surgical center, health and safety standards for women seeking an abortion. Their lives are just as precious as those of their children.
