Welcome to Saint Mary Cathedral!
Our mission strives to humbly sustain and grow our faith, exhibiting integrity in all that we do as we serve Jesus Christ. Our vision strives to be a shining light of Catholic thought and action - lived out through our parish and school - as an example to all in the Diocese of Austin and the State of Texas. Standing in the midst of downtown Austin, the Cathedral serves the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin, which includes 127 parishes, in 25 counties in Central Texas. Its largest metropolitan areas are Austin, Bryan/College Station, the Killeen/Temple/Belton area and Waco. Approximately 450,000 Catholics live in the Diocese of Austin. Saint Mary Cathedral is the home parish of our present bishop, Bishop Joe Vásquez, STL, D.D..
Core Values
Humility- to acknowledge the gifts we have received from God and to use them for Him with prudential judgments. “Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Phil. 2: 24
Faith- the gift we have received from God through the Church to be exercised in our lives through good works. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God --not because of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Eph. 2: 8-10
Sustainability- to protect and grow the legacy handed down to us and pass that legacy to our children. “So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are equal, and each shall receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. 1 Corth. 3: 7-10.
Service- to optimize the use of our gifts received from God for Christ and His body. “Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.” Rom. 12: 9-13
Integrity- honest, direct and faithful in all our work. “Show yourself in all respects a model of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity, and sound speech that cannot be censured, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us.” Titus 2: 7-8 See more at: http://smcaustin.org/?load=page&page=337#sthash.c6KuBnbb.dpuf
