Beautification Day I, produced by Jen Jones, director of volunteer ministries, and directed by Paul Vega, chief of Cathedral maintenance, was a huge success last Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007. Almost 100 parishioners showed up to help Father Bud dust, scrub, wipe, shovel, vacuum, move and organize the Cathedral Close.
Delores Thompson took charge of Bishops Hall and did a masterful job organizing the helpers who cleaned every surface. Rosy Jalifi now has her vase room back in shape. Delia Brownson’s diggers filled in holes and moved dirt. Alex Pong and Christi Walsh tamed the creatures in the dungeon. An unending cascade of things old and broken emerged from the depths of the work room in the Donahue Center. Alas, a floor was discovered. New stars “Energizer Bonnie Vinklarek,” L.J. Smith and his helper, to name a few, provided the muscle, plus an old Army Ranger and an older Marine hauled it all away amidst the UT football traffic.
A sincere thank you for all who took personal time to be with us and contribute to beautifying from the heart!
