2007 – 2008 Volunteer of the Year Dolores Thompson Grounds Beautification Ministry, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Worship Environment Ministry
This year’s recipient of the Saint Mary Cathedral Volunteer of the Year award can be found, at any given time, on the Cathedral grounds, performing some service, tackling a job that “someone” needs to do or just stopping by to pitch in for a few minutes. This individual has been blessed with a strong work ethic and persevering spirit, which helps her overcome any challenge in order to give her all to the many projects she is involved in.
Whether being the first contact of the St. Vincent de Paul Conference, putting her hands back to the Cathedral landscape as part of the Grounds Beautification Ministry, through her involvement with the Worship Environment Ministry or the myriad of other unsung tasks she undertakes, this volunteer, by her example, helps us remember we are called to build the Kingdom of God and that in doing so, we can more fully experience all He has intended for us.
Her gratitude to God and compassion for others leads her to truly see Christ in her sisters and brothers and serve Him through serving those sisters and brothers. Although difficult to single out one particular trait that exemplifies her commitment, one that stands out is her tireless joy in serving God through His children and showing others the way to the Body of Christ.
Content to shun recognition or acclaim, she prefers to deflect the light to others or to the glory and grace of God. Saint Mary Cathedral is so blessed to have this individual in our lives, graciously giving of her time and energy to all in the parish community.
The Saint Mary Cathedral Volunteer of the Year for 2007- 2008 is Dolores Thompson.
